City Sun City

Sun City is the Las Vegas of South Africa where entertainment and nature come together in a special way. The resort is 187 kilometres from Johannesburg on the outskirts of the Pilanesberg Game Reserve, a Big 5 game reserve. The resort Sun City provides the entertainment centre, casino, water park - Valley of the Waves and two famous golf courses for entertainment sake. For day visitors there is an entrance fee of R70 and for hotel guests admission is free.

Valley of the Waves
Sun City is a big complex of four hotels, an entertainment centre, two golf courses, numerous activities including The Valley of the Waves in the centre. The Valley of the Waves water park is among the most developed in the world, dominated by the Roaring Lagoon. The Roaring Lagoon is a 6500 m2 wave pool surrounded by a palm beach. Hydraulic systems are capable of making a 1.8 meter high wave every 90 seconds by striking through the bath. Also, if there are no waves, the water is particularly pretty to look at as it has a pattern of a diamond formed by all kinds of small wave movements.

Gary Player Golf Course
The Sun City golf courses are world famous. The most famous is the 18-hole Gary Player golf course designed by the famous South African golfer. Every year the Nedbank Golf Challenge tournament takes place here with millions in prize money. The Lost City golf course has a watering hole with Nile crocodiles on the 13th hole.

Entertainment & Casino
For young and old, big and small, Sun City has something fun to do. From gaming consoles to cinemas, shops and restaurants, a children's playground - entertainment centre which offers entertainment for the whole family. The Sun City Hotel is a casino complex, as well as the theatre with daily live performances, except on Mondays. For the kids there is a lot to do around the Cabanas Hotel. Kamp Kwena is decorated as a children's club for children between 4 and 12 years. The petting zoo and extensive playground with among other mini cars keep the kids busy for long. Twice a day a supervised children's program starts. For the little ones there is a crèche and the Kamp Kwena Crèche where children are cared for under the age of 1 year. The nursery is open daily from 10:00 until 23:00 and even on Saturdays and Sundays until 01:00.

On a safari
Sun City is adjacent to the Pilanesberg Game Reserve where the Big 5 lives between the gorges of the green craters. The 55 000-hectare park is malaria free. Sun City organizes safaris by jeep or hot air balloon via the Game Trackers Company.

Hotels
At Sun City you can stay in 4 different hotels ranging from luxurious to very luxurious. The showpiece is Palace of the Lost City with very special architecture and facilities. An attempt was made at this hotel bring to life to the legend of the lost city. The Cascades and Sun City Hotel offer a luxurious stay in a pleasant environment in which the Cascades has a very relaxed atmosphere. In the Sun City casino and theatre the Cabanas are located and it is the most affordable and an excellent family hotel.

Trips
You can easily spend a few days without boredom in Sun City. But if you still had enough of the resort there are excursions to include a crocodile shelter, a butterfly garden and cultural village; Iziziwe, where local art, tradition and dance lives. Specifically, the tour by Segway you can make through the resort. All of these trips can be booked through the Welcome Centre.

Origins of Sun City
Sun City was built in 1977 by hotel magnate Sol Kerzner, a Russian immigrant. The South African government had in the context of racial segregation, declared the region around Sun City in Bophuthatswana homeland "independent" in that year. Businessman Kerzner saw his chance and opened a casino in this new homeland. Casinos were banned in South Africa, but that law did not apply to the home countries. From the beginning, Sun City has been a great success. White South Africans from Johannesburg area were driven to the complex during the weekend. The boundaries of the new homeland were no problem for them. After the abolition of apartheid Sun City could provide the complex with no problems connecting to the international market. Especially the courses have contributed to it. Sun City has become a tourist attraction. Take a safari in the morning, go swimming during the hot afternoons and play golf when it is cooler. Try your luck at the casino after dinner. In Sun City you can actually experience something different any hour of the day. 

Sun City with children

  Along the way you may be treated by seeing an Impala or Nyala, which roam freely on the resort.
- Treasure hunters in shell can start looking for the pot of gold at Finders Keepers.
- Water World offers water fun for the whole family: make a somersault on the trampoline at the
  banks of Water World. Or hit a hole in one on the mini golf course. There is a large choice of
  slides and pools. There is some courage necessary for the Viper and Mamba Slide.
- Cool boys and girls can enjoy themselves in the Arcade. Here they find the most \
  video games, but they can also race or play a game of street fighting.
- In the Valley of the Waves the children can put a temporary henna tattoo or their name
  engraved on a grain of rice. The whole family can take a swim in the waves!
- A safari trip to Pilanesberg Game Reserve is fun for the whole family.
