City Rooi Els

The Village Rooi Els is in the Western Cape province of South Africa and it is located on the beautiful coastal route R44. It is a place where life is to be one with nature. And people appreciate that this place on the east side of False Bay in every season.

A place to enjoy nature, watching windsurfing stars, hiking in the mountains or paddle in the Atlantic Ocean, it all happens in the safety of Kogelberg Mountains that surrounds Rooi Els.

Kogelberg Mountains are a unique area where many species of native plants can be found. If you are more than interested in the plant world, it is good to take your list and scratch off what you have never seen before.... that also counts for the bird lovers among you! Cape Rock Jumper and the Black Oystercatcher you can see and also the Verreaux's Eagles are inspired by this environment ...

It is home to small game in which the Cape leopard stands there anyway, hopefully not as you walk here ... But the otter, the Rooikat, Klipspringer, the mongoose, dassies, porcupines and tortoises are worth watching. Baboons you will surely spot and reptile enthusiasts will have their eyes focused on the different types of snakes that you can see here on your path.

And so close to the sea it is of course normal to find fish. In the right season (July-August and November-December) Bryde's Whales and dolphins and seals swim here and can be seen here all year. Think of a fishing license if you want to get something on the hook and money especially if you want to fish for lobster (kreef)!
