City Pringle Bay

Pringle Bay in the Western Cape is about 85 km from Cape Town. It is a small coastal town located on the Whale Route in a Biosphere Reserve.

The place is named after the Royal Navy Commander - in - training, Sir Thomas Pringle.

It is surrounded by the Kogelberg Mountains and overlooks the endless Atlantic Ocean and in the distance the tip of Cape Point. It has especially beautiful Fynbos with its many species of Protea's which makes this area so spectacular. Of the 100 000 hectares Kogelberg Biosphere Reserve it is a place where 1800 different plants grow. There will be no big game but there are still leopards, dassies, hares, small antelopes, klipspringers, grysbok and baboons. Falcons, ospreys and black eagles hunt and live here and a herd of wild horses come through this rugged area.

But the silver-white beach and lagoon where the Buffalo River meets the ocean makes the place special, especially when the sun goes down slowly here. The beach is never crowded but in the holidays you will find lifeguards.

History lovers can find archaeological evidence of the existence of the Khoi-Khoi, the original inhabitants of this area. And only two centuries ago the mountain caves were inhabited by runaway slaves. Later stories about this area are mainly about the pirates and shipwrecks in the False Bay.

There are a number of restaurants within walking distance and it is a 10-minute drive from the penguin colony and Harold Porter Botanical Gardens. In the vicinity you will find golf courses and wine states. Hermanus is a 45 minute drive away. There are also plenty of coast and mountain hiking trails.

And it is clear that Sea Food here is at its best! Be prepared that if you want to go on lobster (kreef) fishing that you need a permit.

Picnic, surf or swim and enjoy this little paradise!
