Northern Tuli Game Reserve

The Northern Tuli Game Reserve (Nature abbreviated), is located in the so-called Tuli Block in the south-eastern tip of Botswana and is 78 000 hectares. The reserve is bordered to the south by South Africa and Zimbabwe to the east and is part of the Greater Mapungubwe Transfrontier Conservation Area. Another name for Northern Tuli Game Reserve is Mashatu Game Reserve or The Land of the Giants. From South Africa, this reserve is easily accessible.

Tuli has a landscape that you will not find anywhere else in Botswana and also offers good opportunities to spot wildlife and birds. You see a landscape of basalt stone, sandstone hills, a network of (mostly dry) riverbeds, green afforestation in wet areas, open grasslands, wetlands and huge baobab trees and Mashatu. During a game drive activities include lions, hippos, giraffes, hyenas, elk, zebras, impalas, wildebeests, ibex, chamois, bush babies, leopards, cheetahs, not to mention elephants. For birders, it is also a great area with over 350 different species including kori bustard, the heaviest flying bird in Africa. Rhinos and buffaloes are not in the reserve.

In addition to the wealth of birds, animals and fascinating landscapes you will also find places of historical value: petroglyphs of Bushmen who originally inhabited this area.

From Tuli Safari Lodge you can take game drives and bush walks with guides who have a very good knowledge of the area or take a horseback ride. The lodge itself is beautifully situated on the Limpopo River and is surrounded by beautiful gardens where you can also spot animals and birds. There are some places where you can hide to spot animals without disturbing the peace. You can also stay in these so-called 'hides' the real adventurous Africa feeling. For whom this is a bit too much, Tuli Safari Lodge has eight suites, a small pool to cool off and vantage points for watching wildlife and birds. Camping is possible at Molema Bush Camp.
