Marloth Park

Marloth Park is the name used for both the 'holiday park' like the game reserve (wildlife sanctuary) located around the park. Marloth Park is situated on the southern border of the Kruger National Park and the gates Crocodile Bridge and Malelane are a short distance (respectively 14 and 35 km), to Kruger. The 'holiday park' was opened in 1977 and houses a few private homes and some wonderful lodges where you can stay.

Marloth Park covers an area of 18 square kilometres and there are four of the Big Five: lion, leopard, rhino and buffalo. The part where wildlife lives is also known as Lions Spruit. The park was built on 1500 hectares and wild animals like kudus, zebras, giraffes, wildebeest, nyala, ostriches and impalas can move freely between accommodations. You can move freely within the park and this can include hiking or mountain biking along the Crocodile River. This river borders the Kruger National Park and is regularly visited by animals quenching their thirst and you can even see elephants taking a bath in the river. Marloth Park is also great for birdwatchers because of the freedom to go on an adventure in the park looking at the many birds.

Marloth Park is 390 km from Pretoria and is widely used by tourists as a stop-over on the way to the Kruger Park, Mozambique or Swaziland. The name was derived from the German botanist Rudolf Marloth to which the wonderful Aloe Marlothïï is also named. The climate can be described as humid subtropical with mild winters and warm summers.

Game drives are organized from Marloth Park in the private Wildlife Sanctuary-but you can also take game drives in the Kruger Park (with your own transport or by a safari vehicle and knowledgeable guide). There are elephant rides, horse riding and (day) trips to Mozambique and Swaziland organized from there.

Stay between the wild in Marloth Park? Opt for Crocodile Kruger Safari Lodge or Needles Lodge.
