City Hoedspruit

Hoedspruit is situated in the Limpopo province of South Africa is on the border with the Kruger National Park, at the foot of the Klein Drakensberg Mountains and the old Selati railway line between Phalaborwa and Kaapmuiden.

It is centrally located in the Lowveld and that area is better known as the Valley of the Elephants. The beautiful location and climate that is attractive all year round, has led to a bustling tourist spot, where nothing is lacking for the visitor. Not only accessible by road and railway, but also by air, because just outside Hoedspruit there is the military airfield which is now also used in civil aviation.

The area of Olifants River and numerous tributaries is not only a great attraction to humans but also to African Wildlife! The Big Five are not the only animals here, but the most famous to look for. And that is not the only attraction; the beautiful breathtaking scenery always gives particularly beautiful views and landscapes here. Mountains, valleys, rivers and dams but also the history of this area is very worthwhile. You can go white water rafting, mountain biking, quad biking, and of course on foot as well.

You will be captivated in the ethnic and cultural groups and go in search of archaeological finds to learn from the people who lives here and has lived here.

Need for experiences and getting closer to nature, you can if you for example go to the Hoedspruit Research and Breeding project. Just outside Hoedspruit located in the Kapama Private Reserve you will see and learn more about the endangered animals caught and bred here. Daktari -a reception dated since 2002- is also a wonderful experience to get acquainted with the orphans of the wilderness. Children are very welcome here and will learn to take good care of our heritage.

Moholoholo Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre offers daily guided tours to learn from animals that are injured or poisoned, and they also have and successful breeding program.

In the vicinity of Hoedspruit there are numerous game reserves where you can go on safari. Consider the Balule Game Reserve, the Blyde Olifants Conservancy between Blyde River and Blyde River Canyon, the Hans Merensky Nature Reserve where you can walk a lot on the road. Those of you that golfer you can also have a special experience when you play-off among giraffes or zebras... the 9-hole golf course Drakensig Hoedspruit is well worth a visit!

The Klaserie and Kapama Game Reserve and of course the world famous Kruger National Park are located just steps away and waiting for your visit.
