Hemel & Aarde Vallei

The valley and the road to Hermanus which becomes the dirt road arriving in Caledon is the beautiful Hemel-en-Aarde Valley. 6.5 km drive through a beautiful natural area with amazing views of the ocean. The hills here are covered with highly prized grapes again provide the most admirable wines each year. This is again a very beautiful piece of nature in the Western Cape.

It is a path which leads to special wine estates and restaurants serving quality and the view is both very important and special. From the R43 the Hemel-en-Aarde is a wine village and Whale Harbour winery where you can buy fine wines and also taste them. Remember, you are still at the initial part of the wine route ...

If you follow the road you will find on your right the Hamilton Russell winery. This is a place with a lovely picnic spot, so take your basket of goodies and enjoy your Hamilton Russell wine. A little further is the next wine cellar of Bouchard Finlayson, with a range of wines.

Hopefully not drinking too much wine, you can continue into the valley, to go along with Sumaridge Wine Estate. The beautiful stone wine cellar and her restaurant have views over the dam and valley and if you forgot the picnic basket you may get one here or have lunch. You can also decide to go a little further to Newton Johnson wine estate to go for wine tasting and there is also a restaurant.

And then we have the idyllic rural Moggs Country house, where families with children can spend lovely lunch time and the modern La Vierge which is a champagne bar and where you can play boule!

If you decide to spend a few days in Hermanus or in the area you should visit the beautiful Hemel-en-Aarde Valley.
