Boulders Beach

Boulders Beach offers a fun day out for both children and adults; here you can see African penguins (or Jackass penguins) up close in their natural habitat. Boulders Beach is approximately 2 kilometres from Simon's Town and is part of the Table Mountain National Park. The sandy beach of boulders surrounded by large granite boulders not only provides shade but also protects it from waves and currents which makes it a nice place to take a dip in the water.

In 1982, two pairs of African penguins were seen here and now the population has grown to more than 3000! Visit the information centre in Kleintuin Road to learn more about the penguins. From here you can take a walk on the wooden platforms (also suitable for wheelchairs) and this is the best place to observe and photograph the penguins up close. Despite the friendly appearance of small penguins, do not try to touch them, they have sharp teeth! Please do not feed them.

Consider not only the penguins on the beach but also keeps your eyes on the water, because with a little luck you could see seals, dolphins, whales or sharks.

Entrance fees are ZAR 55 for adults and ZAR 25 for children under 12 (June 2013).
