Balule Private Game Reserve

Balule private Wild/ Nature Reserve was created when six small reserves decided to remove the fences around their property for the benefit of wildlife. The animals could migrate from then on a larger area and reproduce better and the danger of overgrazing was smaller.

The then reserves were: Greater Olifants River Conservancy, Olifants West Game Reserve, York Game Reserve, Parsons Game Reserve, Olifants North Game Reserve and Grietjie Game Reserve. Many of the names refer to the Olifants River that runs through the area and provides many animals with water. The reserve is about 40 000 hectares and is ideal for safaris.

All animals in the Kruger Park can roam freely from and to the Balule Game Reserve, including the members of the Big Five (lion, buffalo, elephant, leopard, and rhino). Remarkably lions are regularly seen with their prey in the Balule reserve.

The largest and best known accommodation in the Balule Reserve is the Tremisana Lodge which consists of 15 chalets and a two bedroom guest house. The nearest towns are Hoedspruit and Phalaborwa.
